Governor John Hickenlooper would like to extend an invitation to the Gold Star Families of Colorado and Colorado 9/11 Families and Survivors to attend the upcoming “Colorado Remembers 9/11- 10th Anniversary Remembrance” on Sunday September 11th, 2011 in Civic Center Park, Downtown Denver.
To begin the day on the morning of Sept 11th, pieces of steel from the World Trade Center will be on display and available to view for an hour of “Reflection & Remembrance” for the Gold Star Families of Colorado and the Colorado Families and Survivors of 9/11 from 8:30am-9:30am in Civic Center Park. In order to attend this special hour of “Reflection & Remembrance”, Families/Survivors must arrive in Civic Center Park between 8:00am -8:30am and check-in at the Greek Amphitheater to receive a pin to be escorted to the WTC steel. No official program is planned for this hour of “Reflection & Remembrance”, however, Chaplains/Gold Star staff/State of Colorado staff will be on site and available if needed. Families may bring commemorative items to be placed with the WTC Steel (ie photos, mementos, flowers, candles, etc). All items placed at the memorial will be archived at the end of the day with the State of Colorado. Families/Survivors may spend as much time as they would like at the WTC Steel during the hour of “Reflection & Remembrance”.
Upon completion of the hour of “Reflection & Remembrance” Families/Survivors may choose to stay for the 9/11 Memorial Ceremony (12:45pm-2:00pm) and/or the Commemoration Concert (2:00pm-5:00pm). A special seating section (to include pre-set seating along with space on the grass in the park) for the Gold Star Families and 9/11 Families/Survivors will be set aside close to the stage for the Memorial Ceremony and Commemoration Concert. Some pre-set seating will be available but it is recommended that folks bring their own blanket/chairs to ensure seating for the Memorial Ceremony/Commemoration Concert. In order to have access to this special seating area, Gold Star Families and 9/11 Families/Survivors must have a pin (which may only be picked up between 8:00am-8:30am in the Greek Amphitheater). We recommend that folks save their seats early, once this area fills we may not be able to reserve additional space as the Ceremony time approaches. For those staying for the Ceremony, we will have Chaplains/Gold Star staff/State of Colorado staff to assist as needed, and folks may choose to depart following the Memorial Ceremony.
Agenda for the Memorial Ceremony includes:
