Dear Family Members:

Greetings from the Families of September 11, I hope you are well.  I am writing to remind you about our upcoming hike, this Sunday, November 23rd, at Harriman State Park, Bear Mountain, NY.  So far, about 15 family members are planning to attend – what about you and your family?

Below, please find directions to our meeting point in Sloatsburg, NY (at 10:30AM) on Sunday, as well as additional hike information.  All ages are welcome – and it looks to be a great day to be outdoors (60+ degrees and sunny!)!

If you are planning to drive directly to Harriman State Park, please plan to meet up with Bruce, and other families in Sloatsburg, NY.  You should plan to arrive to Sloatsburg at 10:30AM on Sunday.  It is a small town on Route 17, south of Tuxedo, NY.  We will meet at the strip mall in the center of town, on the left, past the post office and barber shop.  In the strip of stores there is a Dunkin’ Donuts, a Deli, and other small stores.

If you are driving from NYC, take the NY Thruway to Exit 15A.  Take Route. 17 (North) for 1 mile into Sloatsburg.  If you are coming from the North, take Exit 16 and take Rte. 17 South for about 5 miles to Sloatsburg.  Plan to arrive in Sloatsburg at 10:30AM on Sunday.

If you live in New York City and do not have transportation to the park, please plan to meet Bruce Kaufstein of the North Shore Child & Family Guidance Center (the director of the Outdoor Program) at the northwest corner of Broadway and 181st Street, in upper Manhattan.  It is located very close to the George Washington Bridge and Bruce will bring a van to accommodate 15 people.  Bruce will pick up all families at 9:00AM on the corner.  Paige, the program director from Families of September 11, will also be waiting at this location.

Plan for the day, Food, Water and Contact Information:

The trip is free and includes lunch, water and snack.  When we meet at the Deli in Sloatsburg, we will take your orders for sandwiches and bring the food on the trip.  Bring a light backpack to carry your lunch.  The weather report predicts sunshine and temperatures in the low 60s – perfect for our hiking and walking.  Our day will consist of some hiking, walking in nature, time for reflection, a lunch break and an opportunity to connect with other families.  It will be a very low key and relaxing day - we encourage you to take in all the serenity and beauty the park has to offer.  We anticipate ending the day in the late afternoon.

If you need additional information or have any questions about the day’s activities, please do not hesitate to call Bruce Kaufstein at 516-626-1971 ext. 316 (during the work week) or on his cell phone (on the weekend and day of the trip) 516-457-7560.

Please email us cell phone information or your home number or a number where you can be reached on the weekend.  Bring your family and friends – all are welcome!

We look forward to meeting you on Sunday.  I can be reached by phone at 212-575-1878 or by email at ppanzner@familiesofseptember11.org if you have any other questions.

Take care.
