FOS11 2007 Membership Survey: Summary of Findings
In October 2007, Families of September 11 (FOS11) conducted a telephone survey of its membership in the United States. FOS11 has more than 2,400 members in 48 states and 23 countries. This was a follow-up to previous polls conducted in June 2006 and January 2005. FOS11 once again commissioned the Center for Survey Research and Analysis at the University of Connecticut to conduct this survey. Click on the link to read the summary of findings.

Post-Traumatic Growth: Emphasis on Growth, Not Trauma
An article by FOS11 Advisory Board Member, Dr. Julian D. Ford
In this article, Dr. Ford discusses post-traumatic growth. He describes it as, "changes that an individual (or family, or community) may make following traumatic events that go beyond recovering from the shock and loss -when new paths are taken in life that lead to a level of creativity, accomplishment, and fulfillment that seem unlikely to have occurred were it not for the trauma serving as a catalyst."

Dr. Donna A. Gaffney writes about commemoration and grief in her article. Titled "Revisiting Loss: A Time for Growth," she writes, "we need to consider how human beings deal with painful events and loss. How we grieve has everything to do with how we remember. We are not just mourning the loss of people, but our way of life, our homes and work places."

An article by FOS11 Advisory Board Member, Ron Shindel
In this article, FOS11 Advisory Board Member, Ron Shindel offers tips on emergency planning for the home. "Be Prepared! It’s not just a saying for scouts, it’s really a way of life for those who want to be ready should a challenge arise," Ron Shindel writes, "Whether it’s an act of terrorism, a building fire, a power outage, or just Mother Nature reasserting her supremacy, being prepared saves lives and makes the road to recovery and restoration of normalcy a much smoother ride." Ron is a retired NYPD Commander and a Security and Emergency Preparedness Expert.
