Families of September 11 -- Call for Volunteers!
September 25, 2005
Over the past year, Families of September 11 has expanded its impact and has reached more and more 9/11 families worldwide, offering support to families located as far as Hawaii and Poland. The success of our outreach is largely due to increased member participation, ongoing communication with our membership, and important feedback from FOS11 members like you.
We continue to watch our membership increase, and have heard from many family members that they are ready "to assist FOS11," "help other families in a situation like my own," and "would really like to connect with people in my area."
How can you help? Please review the following list of FOS11 activities and let us know how you would like to contribute to our mission and overall goals. We know these projects can be bolstered by a volunteer effort. Your assistance can include hands-on activities at your site or off site work -- depending on your availability and/or interest. Let us know all of your ideas in order to create a unique experience for you and other volunteers.

FOS11 Community Outreach: School and Community Resources
FOS11 is committed to developing tools and materials for schools that address the issues of traumatic public loss, emergency preparedness and school safety. We are looking for volunteers to assist us with our community outreach projects. Would you like to connect with other 9/11 families with children to learn about how different schools and communities have responded to their needs or addressed 9/11 and issues related to it in the classroom? If you have experience conducting research or are interested in the subject matter, please let us know. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and write "Community Outreach Volunteer" in the subject line.
FOS11 Legislative Initiatives and Public Policy
FOS11 members are represented in 48 states and 20 countries. Mobilizing members to play an active role in civic participation is imperative to our mission and short and long-term goals. We are looking for members to help us to research legislative issues, organize member lists based on geographic location, and update families about public policy issues related to 9/11 and terrorism in general. If you are interested in public policy, law, political science or have experience related to these specific areas, please let us know. We are looking for volunteers to assist in our advocacy, track policy information and update FOS11 members domestically and abroad about these issues. Email us at email@example.com and write "Legislative Volunteer" in the subject line.
We look forward to hearing from you and will follow up your email with next steps. With your support and assistance, we feel confident Families of September 11 will continue to effectively serve its membership, represent the interests of 9/11 families and those affected by terrorism, and promote the prevention of terrorist acts.
